Standard X-Ray Image Device
Dual-energy X-Ray absorptiometry (DXA)
Any other imaging modality
Both hips must be included (for Comprehensive assessment)
The image should cover a portion of the shaft long enough; approximately
twice the length of the femoral neck plus trochanter.
This ensure that the contribution of these parts (neck, trochanter, and shaft)
to the orientation of the femur is comprehensively taken into account.
Example of a hip image that meets OAS specifications
As femoral neck and greater trochanter need to be assessed reliably, images should be collected in a 15˚ - 20˚ internal rotation
Must (if not all) X-ray and DXA hip images meet these specifications
